Passo Manghen sits at 2047 meters a.s.l., int eh Lagorai Mountain Group of the Italian Dolomites.  Located in the Trentino Alto Adige Region Paso Manghen connects the town of Borgo Valsugana with the town of Molina in the Fiemme Valley. The Manghen Pass is not well known outside of Italy, but it is one of the classic climbs of the Giro d'Italia, and on most local cyclist to do list. To reach Passo Manghen by bicycle there are two start points.  The classic and hardest route is from Borgo Valsugana, 23 km in length, and just over 7% average grade. From Molina the bike climb is shorter at just over 16 km, and the average grade is 7.4%, but there are no extreme grades of 15% like on the southern side.

Located in the Trento Province you can get a train from the city of Trento to Borgo Valsugana or a Train from Bassano del Grappa in the Veneto Region.  The closest train station Molina, on the northern side is Ora/Auer, you can get a bus from here to Molina.

The road to the summit is called Strada Provinciale 31 (SP-31). The pass is 39.1 km (24.29 miles) long,
running south-north from Borgo Valsugana to Cavalese. Commercial traffic is prohibited.

Day 1. Passo Manghen - Malga Cere

 

Malga Care is located in the green of Val Calamento at an altitude of 1,713 m and offers accommodation in newly renovated rooms. It has 2 rooms with 6/8 beds each. Sheet bag and towel required. Possibility of sleeping in their tents with use of the facilities. It has been run by Giulia and Luigi for 11 years. They offer breakfast and dinner.

Day 2. Malga Cere - Caldenave Refuge

 

Caldenave Refuge "Claudio and Renzo" 1792 m. The Malga Caldenave refuge is located in the Lagorai, in the granite subgroup of Cima d'Asta - Cima di Rava. The nearby Val Vorsera

(40 min) with the granite walls of Costabrunella, Cima Trento and Creste di rava offer several classic climbing routes. Rif Caldenave is a stop on the Alta Via del Granito.

The refuge has 20 beds distributed in 3 rooms with common bathrooms. Managed by Guido.

Day 3. Caldenave to Ottone Brentari Refuge

From the Caldenave Refuge (1792m) to the Cima d'Asta "Ottone Brentari" Refuge (2476m) passing through Forcella della Buse Todesche and Forcella Magna, in a stretch where different Austro-Hungarian and Italian positions alternate and the Lakes of the Val Inferno; a seies of ponds set between rocks and vegetation on the border between the woods and the meadow.

At the foot of the south wall of the Cima d'Asta, the highest peak of the Lagorai group, Brentari Refuge has 56 beds.
